Their work is never done ... even at a convention
Several members of the Boothbay Fire Department (BFD), and their wives, attended the 53rd Maine State Federation of Fire Fighters Convention held in York, Maine, the weekend of Sept. 10 and 11. The weekend was a great success The department took its antique 1947 Chevy Pumper to the parade and placed second in their division!
The BFD members were greeted with cheers and enthusiasm from the Boothbay region. The Sept. 2017 convention is being held here in Boothbay and parade goers cannot wait to come Boothbay next year.
The department would like to thank E.M. Wood for donating the use of a truck and trailer to transport the ’47 pumper to York.
Interestingly enough, there was a small kitchen fire at the motel where our firemen (and the antique truck) stayed on the evening of Sept. 9. With quick response from BFD’s Dave McFarland and Gary Arsenault, they were able to extinguish the blaze before the local department got there.
It was quite ironic as the motel was filled with all federation executives and firemen at the time of the incident and the owners were extremely grateful.
This statewide annual event was last held here in 2008 and the area fire departments are looking forward to bringing the convention back to our community again.
