On Saturday, Sept. 24, I met a young man, Griffin Kane, from my hometown of Boothbay who joined the Navy three years ago. I am very proud that he picked the submarine service. He has been assigned to the USS Annapolis in Guam.

In the process of the conversation, I mentioned that my oldest son was on the USS LaJolla, several years ago.

Griffin suddenly pulled of his hat and showed me that he had been stationed on the USS LaJolla for the last three years!

I am proud that the Boothbay region is still producing patriotic, young men and women who choose to join the armed services for their careers and serve our country.
