Steven E. Lorrain Sr. seeks reelection to CSD trustees
Address: 11 Snow Hill Road, Boothbay Harbor
Occupation: Self-employed, paint contractor
Education: Ongoing (Learn something new every day); schooling through 12th grade
Political History (boards, committees): 2½ three-year terms with the CSD Board of Trustees, second year as board chair
Clubs/organizations: Rotary (five years); Former Scoutmaster (11 years)
Considering the position you are running for, what do you feel are the three most pressing issues?
The Board of Trustees was set up in the 1950s. It is set aside from the School Board by a charter, probably the last school district in Maine to do so. The towns need to come together and make a real school board where everyone in the room can be involved in the decisions being made.
The entire region needs to have the following discussion: Do we want/need to keep and maintain separate pre-K-12 Elementary and High school buildings and campus areas? Keep and maintain sports fields and extracurricular activities? Keep and maintain a fleet of buses? These questions and more need to be before the public.
We have just started the RFQ (Request for Qualifications) process to examine the possibility of a new high school facility that would be attached to but separate from the Elementary School. It needs a thorough process. Community, faculty, students should all have input, facts all gathered and voted on by the region.
Any other thoughts on why you are running or what you bring to the office?
My personal thoughts are that in this virtual society, it is more important to know your “Bow from your Stern.” I am not one to give my opinion unless asked for, but I believe it is better to be trusted than liked.
