Courtesy of the galleryGleason Fine Art at 31 Townsend Ave. in Boothbay Harbor is currently exhibting the paintings of Chris Huntington. There are plans for a spring show in the works. The artist has been a plein air painter for more than 50 years.
Chris Huntington is a painter, folk art collector, dealer, and curator. After moving to Maine, he became the first curator at the Colby College Museum of Art in Waterville.
Inspired by masters of the rugged Maine coast, Huntington spent much of the 1960s and 1970s painting on the islands of Monhegan and Matinicus. Stylistically, he was following in the footsteps of others, such as George Bellows and Robert Henri. In the 1990s, he began to explore more of the interior of the state, working around Shin Pond and the Mount Katahdin range. His work has been acquired by several public collections, including the Farnsworth Art Museum and the Portland Museum of Art.
Gleason Fine Art is pleased to share some of the artist's works. The gallery's winter hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and by appoinment by calling 207-633-6849. For more information visit https://www.gleasonfineart.com/
