Although the day began with a bit of “frost on the pumpkins,” the warm fall sunshine provided perfect conditions for the annual community favorite, Railway SPOOKtacular.  Nearly 1,000 Halloween lovers of all ages came out for a fun-filled day of trains, tricks, and treats. Thanks to the generosity of 21 local businesses and organizations, trick or treaters went home with a ‘healthy’ supply of goodies.

The museum wishes to recognize and thank the following businesses and organizations for their time, treats, and creative efforts:

Healing Touch Massage, Eastside Waterfront Park, Boothbay Region Lions Club, Boothbay Harbor Inn/Fisherman’s Wharf, Community Resource Council, First National Bank, Y-Arts/Armstead Family, BRES, Bayside Inn, Crocker Family, Maci’s Hair & Nail Boutique, Nautical Nutrition, Pier 1 Pizza, The Whale’s Tale & Seafarer Pub, Atlantic Edge Lobster, A & C Creations Boothbay Harbor, CAC Cleaning, YMCA Childcare & Fit Kids, Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, Hyson Excavation and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

In addition to treats, each business festively decorated their station, and people’s choice awards went to:  1st Place: Y-Arts/Armstead Family; 2nd Place: Bayside Inn; and 3rd Place: Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Event organizer Kate Rice replied after counting the ballots, “And my favorite vote was the one that circled all 21 stations, and I agree … they were all the best!”

We also wish to thank and recognize all volunteers and participating organizations: Boothbay Sea & Science Center, Burke’s Island Farm, BRHS Project Graduation, High School & Middle School Volunteers and BRV Staff and Board Members. And donors, and event sponsors: Pier 1 Pizza, Janson’s, Pinkham’s Gourmet Market and Sea Glass Spa.

And finally, a very special thank you to three individuals who are quite literally the ‘cog in the wheel’ of the train operations at the museum.  Their ongoing generosity has resulted in countless happy children and families:  Engineers John and Cathy Orne, and Dick Forrest.

Next up at the museum is the beloved North Pole Express, Dec. 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18: Tickets go on sale Nov. 7, with pre-sale available to museum members on Nov. 4.
