The Boothbay Region Special Olympics Area Track and Field Meet took place at McMann Field in Bath on Friday, May 12. The Boothbay Region team was surprised and excited to learn that Anthony Angelico would be carrying the torch into the Opening Ceremonies.

The team did well. They returned with 10 first places, eight seconds, nine thirds and one each in 4th, 5th and 6th.

Relay Team A was a step behind winning first and will focus on the training needed to try and make that happen for them. Relay Team B won a third place and did amazingly well considering the field of relays.

It was a beautiful day and also “Piper" Rankin's birthday.

Next for the team is the Special Olympics State Summer Games at the University of Maine Orono June 9-11.
