Southport Yacht Club and Cozy Harbor are bustling this morning (Aug. 15) as the Maine State Opti Championships get started. We are excited to host Opti sailors as they bring enthusiasm and skill to the Sheepscot River. Thank you to John and Cecily Walsh for organizing this event and good luck to all the sailors.

The annual Beer Tasting did not disappoint the members who attended this year’s event-dubbed “A Tasting for the Ages.” Past Commodore Geoff Chatterton hosted the event and surprised the crowd with a beer he brewed especially for the event.

It’s the final week of the sailing program which means that Friday night will be a very special evening. The Junior Banquet will be held at SYC (or at the Town Hall in case of rain) at 6 p.m. Families look forward to a recap of the summer, awards, a slideshow and a brownie sundae to top it off. The award for the busiest day of the SYC summer calendar is Saturday, Aug. 20. The annual meeting will start at 10 a.m. at the club, followed by a 1 p.m. Season Finale Open Race, and the August Commodore’s Reception at 6 p.m. We hope to see all of you for these last summer events to end another special Maine summer on Southport.
