Southport students provide ‘Winter Light’ concert

Dressed in Christmas colors and displaying their singing talent and cheerful personalities, the 18 Southport Central School students performed their annual winter concert, “Winter’s Light” on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Southport Town Hall before a standing room only audience.

The concert was put together by SCS’s music and art teacher Jennifer McIvor, who provided piano and guitar music for the nine songs. The songs included “It’s the Season,” “Little Star,” “Sainte Nuit” (French version of “Silent Night”), “Bold Orion on the Rise,” “Under Winter Moon,” “Light,” “A Light of Hope A Song of Peace,” “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer (played by the fifth and sixth grade band and backed on kazoos by the third and fourth graders), and “Chante, C’est Noel.”

The kindergarten through grade six concert concluded with three traditional Christmas songs with audience participation.

The SCS students include: Kindergarten and first graders Lily Billings, Owen Fessenden, Aiden Nunan, Cairine Blackman Morehouse, Rivers Healy, Brock Wallace; third and fourth graders Ryder Baker, Shepherd Griffith, Aurora Wallace, Jonah Fessenden, Duncan Scott; and fifth and sixth graders Fiona Bishop, Haiden Blackman, Mabel Kaler, Carter Townsend, Jessie Ullo and Kayla Watts.
