Southport’s Winter Carnival: Lots of fun and prizes
Good food, good fun and lots and lots of donated raffle prizes highlighted Southport Central School’s annual Winter Carnival held at the Southport Town Hall Saturday night, March 18.
For monetary donations to the sixth grade class trip this spring, attendees got to choose what prize they might want to win by placing their raffle tickets in a container. Once everyone was fed (with donated macaroni and cheese, salads, chowder, chili and more), sixth graders Eric Maki, Raphael Goldhirsch and Teal Beavis picked the winning ticket of each raffle prize. A fourth sixth grader, Kayden Ames, couldn’t attend. There were three long tables and a bench loaded with raffle prizes and several envelopes with gift certificates from local businesses. SCS students and Principal Marcelle Durost helped display the raffle prizes and presented them to the winners.
Though the turnout was lower than in previous years, everyone had a good time helping to raise money for the sixth graders’ trip to Adventure Bound in Caratunk.
