Southport nomination papers awaiting candidates

Four terms end in March

Southport is looking for a few good candidates to run for municipal office. On Nov. 22, nomination papers became available for selectmen, school board, treasurer and water district trustee. As of Monday, Dec. 9, no incumbents or potential challengers had taken out papers. The incumbents are Gerry Gamage, selectman; Jane Mulholland, school board; Gail Sprague, treasurer; and Climo Smith, water district trustee. All four openings are for three-year terms.

Candidates can request papers from the town clerk and must return them by Thursday, Jan. 2 with at least 25 and no more than 75 signatures of registered Southport voters. The municipal election is Monday, March 2.
