Anyone interested in serving as a Southport selectman, school committee member, or Boothbay Region Water District trustee has until Jan. 2 to return nomination papers. The following municipal terms expire in March: Smith Climo, selectman; Kathy Tibbetts, school committee; and Gerry Gamage, BRWD trustee. All terms are for three years.

There is also a special election to fill an unexpired school committee seat. Adam Harkins was appointed to fill a seat after he lost in his re-election bid last year. Harkins was the committee chairman and had won four previous terms. 

He lost to challenger Maddie Kaler during the March 4 municipal elections, 62-35. Kaler resigned prior to taking her seat. Selectmen appointed Harkins to fill the seat until the next election. 

The town meeting and municipal elections are Monday, March 3 at the town hall.
