This week we had an exciting week at the Southport Yacht Club. We had many beautiful Maine Days out on the water this week! We welcomed Piper Eastwood, Stella Evans, Conrad Faught, Kemper Faught, Adeline Martinez, and Gabriel Mcdonough to the morning class this week. These six sailors jumped into Cozy Habor before their first sail at SYC. On Friday, the morning class had their annual Pirate Day on Friday on Powderhorn Island! Everyone came dressed like a Pirate and searched for the lost treasure of candy on the Island. After hours of searching, Maggie Amos found it and shared the candy with everyone!

In the afternoon class on Friday, 420 and Opti sailors had their race day, where they raced against each other to compete for the monthly and season cups at the end of the summer. The 420 sailors had a total of two races. Ella Freund and Maggie Doyle came in first for the day! For Opti sailors, Grayden Smith came in first place, Ily Harrington came in second place, and Hadden Brinegar came in third place.

This week we are sending eight sailors to the Maine State 420 Championship Regatta in York, Maine! On Aug. 1 and 2, these eight sailors will be representing SYC. Wishing all the luck to Rachel Phippen, Kimball Khetani, Lucy Gauthier, Sean Morrison, Oliver Tineo, Avery Khetani, Abby Dupee, and Parker Baker!

On Thursday, Aug. 4, the Southport Junior Yacht Club will be hosting our second ice cream social of the year! Hope to see you there!
