Southport Column: Dinner, talks and more
Normally I would be done by now, but I have been distracted by flowers and wood piles. We were told that a week of rain would be upon us, but very little actually came and the sunny, cool days have been too perfect to spend indoors, so outdoor work got tended, walks were had, nature enjoyed. The forget-me-nots carry on mirroring the color of the sky on earth, the buttercup petals shimmer like the sun, woodland floors are dotted with the white of star and foam flowers, joined by elegant pink lady slippers, the days have radiated with color.
Tomorrow begins a new month and there are many things coming up that might pique your interest and you might want to set aside time for.

"Working Waterfront" is one man’s journey harvesting, handling, processing, buying, and selling seafood. An inside look at the times, people, places and management of New England Fisheries. As with all journeys, it’s also a spiritual one—with recipes! Bill is also going to share some of his favorite treats: crab mac and cheese, scallops Coquilles St. Jacques, and half-shelled oyster. The vibrant landscape and floral paintings by Lori Lynn Hoffer, and a few June Elderkin pieces will be up for your viewing pleasure throughout June, more of Hoffer’s work can be seen at the Botanical Gardens. Tuesday and Thursday the Library Coffee Table is open to all beginning around 10a.m. fresh coffee, a sweet treat, lively discourse, truly a great way to spend some time. While I will admit to being a big fan of the quiet, it is nice to see familiar faces returning for the season, one is Lynn Schafer who owns Possibilities in the Shed at 476 Hendricks Hill Road which will be opening on Saturday the 13th, I will have further details in the next column. Gradually all will be here and additional visitors as well, let us be kind, respectful and patient with one another, show some grace and please be careful on the road through the construction that is occurring. I realize the one side is just gravel, but driving n the other lane into oncoming traffic is not safe for anybody. Enjoy the week, take in the beauty and wonder and May Peace Be With You All.
