Southport Column: Belated B-days, paving and more

Mon, 09/19/2022 - 4:15pm

A belated ‘Happy Birthday” to Evelyn Sherman, which she celebrated with family and friends this past week. We won”t divulge how many years they celebrated, but will just say she is very wise. Also a ‘Happy Birthday” to Eileen Higgins who celebrated her birthday last Sunday with family and friends.

Absentee ballot applications are now available at the Southport Town Hall. You may either call to ask Donna to mail one to you or stop by to pick one up.

Paving of Dog Fish Head Road is scheduled for the second week in October. The paving around the town hall seems to be mostly done except for applying lines where appropriate.

I learned through an email from Morgan Mitchell that the Southport Gift Barn at the Southport General Store has launched an online shopping. Go to the store website, southportgeneralstore.com, for more information or email the Barn manager at Annie@SouthportGeneralStore.com.

The group discussing improvements to the land around the Southport Island School will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The focus will probably be on the pond and on the boggy land to the south of the school where children love to play, but where some safety measures are in order.

If you have filled out the necessary forms, remember to get your flu shot, administered by Nathan’s Wellness Pharmacy, at the Southport Town Hall this Thursday, Sept. 22 between 3:30 and 6 p.m. Forms are available outside the side entrance to the town hall.

As you can see, I have not been able to scare up much news this week. Please email with news at kitleigh@roadrunner.com. Thanks.
