Skidompha’s ‘By Popular Demand’ film series returns
Skidompha Library’s By Popular Demand film series will feature “No Time for Sergeants” (1958, 119 min.) on Monday, June 9. This comedy, based on the novel by Mac Hyman, stars Andy Griffith, Myron McCormick and Don Knotts.
Georgia farm boy Will Stockdale is about to bust with pride. He’s been drafted. Will’s ready. But is Uncle Sam ready for Will?
In “No Time for Sergeants,” Griffith is certifiable funny in the role that clinched his stardom. Wearing a friendly, wide grin, he ambles into the U.S. Air Force – and lots of folks will never be the same. They include pint-sized Ben, a big-city bruiser, and a jittery aptitude tester. Finally there’s Sgt. Orville King, a don’t rock-the-boat old-timer driven crazy by Will’s gee-wiz efforts at friendship. Griffith, McCormick and Knotts reprise their winning performances from No Time for Sergeants smash Broadway run.
“No Time for Sergeants” screens at 7 p.m. in Skidompha Library’s Porter Meeting Hall. Use the library’s back entrance on Elm Street. A suggested $5 donation will help the library expand and maintain its film collection.
