Simply being honest
Dear Editor:
I, too, listened to the long-range planning meeting for the school last week. The members of the various town boards and school boards were not timid, but simply being honest.
The Edgecomb representatives made it clear there is no interest in having a high school built there. The Wiscasset representatives expressed concern that now may not be a good time to consider consolidating with the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor CSD. Everyone agreed that continuing the type of cooperative efforts that have already been going on, such as combining for sports and other programs, is a good starting point.
There was sincere interest expressed in working on the concept of a satellite vo-tech program for our kids, I believe in conjunction with Bath. In short, the committee was not shutting down discussions of possible solutions that would be good not only for our students but also the taxpayers, but simply clarifying what directions are worth the time to explore and which are not. We also need to bear in mind that this was just the first, very preliminary, meeting, so perhaps no one should jump to conclusions.
