SHED Talk: Artist Nikki Pilgrim’s ‘Ritual of Painting’

Wed, 08/23/2017 - 9:30am

Heavily influenced by her coastal surroundings, artist Nikki Pilgrim immerses herself in the ‘ritual of painting’ using ornate color and pattern as she transfers her environment into her creative work.

The Bath artist will exhibit and discuss her work with the public during SHED (Space for Handmade Explorative Design) Talks at Dusk on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 8:30 p.m. on Wiscasset’s Creamery Pier.

Pilgrim describes herself as “ … a maker. I am always compelled to be producing.”

In addition to the natural environment, the artist says her work is influenced by antiquity, funk, pattern and color. “I relish my time spent at flea markets and in nature, both of which Maine is rich with. My found treasures, anything from driftwood off the beach or a find from the flea market, will often be incorporated into a painting.”

SHED Talks at Dusk is a lecture series hosted by Doublet Design. Owners Mali Mrozinski and Jordan Gehman are bringing artists, craftspeople, and the community together to discuss and engage with creative ideas. The SHED, located on Creamery Pier, is a multi-functional space that serves as a workshop and gallery for Doublet Design.

Weather permitting, the Shed Talk will be held outside with images projected onto the wall of the workshop. For more information, visit
