Sewer district relining project starts
The Boothbay Harbor Sewer District Trustees learned on Wednesday, Nov. 5 that the Commercial Street relining project, which has been in the planning stages for several months, will soon become a reality.
In a letter, the project’s successful bidder, Green Mountain Pipeline Services of Bethel, Vermont, advised that preparation was scheduled to begin on Monday, Nov. 10. The initial preparatory phase will take about a week. Following the site prep, six weeks will be needed to complete the installation of liners and other work.
Once the prep crew arrives, the order of construction will be determined and any home owners who may be affected by the work will be notified.
The work will require sealing the point of connection from individual houses to the sewer main. It is expected that individual home owners will be without the use of the sewer line for three to four hours while the work is being done.
Other business
The sewer district contacted five vendors to secure bids on an upgrade to the plant heating system. Specifications were sent to the vendors and the deadline for bids was set as Oct. 29. But, only one bid was received by the deadline, and the amount of the bid placed it significantly higher than the estimate provided by the engineers.
As a result, trustees decided to reject the bid and to initiate a new request for bids. It is hoped that the heating system will be operational by Dec. 15.
