Set For Success celebration Aug. 20
Boothbay Region Community Resource Council is proud to present Set For Success for its sixth year.
The free back to school celebratory event will take place on Sunday, Aug. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m in the YMCA Field House. Every elementary student attending Edgecomb Eddy School, Boothbay Region Elementary School and Southport Central are encouraged to come to the free event.
School principals will be waiting to greet students at the Welcome Center. Once the student checks in they’ll receive a shopping list to use at grade appropriate school supply shopping centers. Greeters inside the venue will be guiding students and their families to the appropriate center where they’ll choose a free backpack and every teacher requested school supply listed on their shopping list. Volunteers will be stationed at each shopping center to help with choices.
Once children have chosen school supplies, they are invited to stroll the venue where folks from all across the peninsula and beyond, who support our children’s education, will be waiting to meet them and offer all kinds of handouts, health screenings, advice and yummy healthy snacks from Hannaford. A big highlight each year is our amazing free Hair Salon where students will receive a back to school haircut from volunteer hair stylists led by Annette Nager of Shear Artistry Family Hair Salon in Boothbay Harbor. Nail techs will be available to put color on children’s nails. Another fun Bounce House will be full of air for those full of energy!
Do not miss the free Clothing Boutique ... everything from designer clothing to winter wear, boots, shoes and even summer footwear will be awaiting students and families to take home. There is something for everyone in the boutique ... infant wear, children, teens and adults.
New event booths this year include Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 36, Tidal Transit Kayak, Anchor Church and a fashionable lemonade stand hosted by two BRES students, Magen Burge and Lily Nein. This will be the only event booth where donation dollars are graciously accepted. The 5th grade students goal is to raise funds to offset school field trips.
FAME, Finance Authority of Maine will once again be offering Next Gen Educational Grants. Please stop by their booth for information on setting up an educational account for your student. Parents, please come with your children’s Social Security number needed for applying.
As an added extended bonus to event day, the YMCA will be opening its pool and gym to all families from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. A membership is not required to enjoy the pool and gym on event day. Come prepared ... bathing suits and a towel and off you go for a great end to what is always a terrific celebration of equipping our students to be Set For Success!
