It’s a new beginning for Edgecomb education. On June 7, Heather Sinclair became the new Edgecomb School Committee chairman. Newly elected member Arthur Garey became vice chairman. The board is also welcoming a new Alternative Organizational Structure 98 superintendent and Edgecomb Eddy School principal. On June 14, Sinclair introduced Robert Kahler who becomes superintendent July 1 and Dr. Christina Boursaw who will become principal, also on July 1.

Kahler is currently the Livermore Community School principal. He has over 19 years working as a school administrator. Kahler told selectmen he is a former social studies teacher and girls soccer and boys wrestling coach. “I’ve worked in both small and large districts. I’m excited about getting back to a small community environment, and now I have five of them,” he said. Boursaw has eight years of classroom experience and eight years as an administrator. She taught the past year as a Regional School Unit 1 third grade teacher in Bath. She previously taught in California, and her family moved to Maine last fall. Her family visited several times before deciding to move to Midcoast Maine. Boursaw told selectmen her family’s plan was to wait another year before moving. “We wanted to wait until our youngest child went to college, but COVID-19 hit. Everything went online, so we moved,” she said.

Boursaw became acquainted with Edgecomb Eddy when she and her husband were house hunting. “We drove by the school, and he told me ‘You are going to apply for that.’ And he was right,” Boursaw said.  She holds a doctorate in educational leadership and social justice, with additional degrees in cross-cultural education and psychology. Her resume includes work with blended instruction, interdisciplinary curriculum development, human resources, advanced training in challenging communication, and classroom teaching experience ranging from third grade to upper level social studies.
