Selectmen amend food truck permit for expanding hours

Lester Spear’s spectacular holiday light show is going to brighten the Boothbay nights a little longer this season. On Dec. 20, Boothbay selectmen approved Spear’s request on behalf of the Cameron Clan Snack Co. to extend the show to coincide with Gardens Aglow. In November, the company received approval to operate Thursdays through Sundays from Nov. 19 to Dec. 31. Spears wanted the special amusement permit allowing up to five food trucks to operate on his Wiscasset Road location to mirror Gardens Aglow’s schedule.

But from Dec. 19 through Dec. 31, Gardens Aglow is open all week with the only exception of Dec. 24. So Spear sought to amend his permit. “I wasn’t clear with you (selectmen), and realized that when I watched the (Nov. 13)  minutes. Up until now, it’s only been open Thursday through Sunday, but we wanted everyone to know about the change,” Spear said.

This is the first year Spear received a special amusement permit for the food trucks. Town Manager Dan Bryer reported he has received one complaint about the permit.

In other action, selectmen voted 3-0 in approving a $1,000 Ulmer Fund Scholarship for Boothbay Region High School sophomore Della Hahn. She is using the scholarship for the school’s German American Partnership Program (GAPP) February trip to Germany. On Feb. 13, Hahn and 11 other GAPP members will spend three weeks in Germany visiting Hamburg, Berlin and other attractions.Selectman Steve Lewis was especially impressed with Hahn’s application.

“That was probably the best and most complete application we’ve received,” he said.

Selectmen held the special meeting at 11 a.m. Friday morning because their regular meeting was scheduled for Dec. 25. Selectmen meet next at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 in the municipal building’s conference room.
