Seasonal water main installation on Barters Island
Dear Editor:
If you live on the East Side Road on Barters Island you may have noticed a large quantity of black, plastic pipe arriving in various locations along the road and be wondering what it is there for. Over the past several years the north end of Barters Island has experienced much growth, putting a strain on the existing pipes on Barters Island to properly meet our customers’ needs, a situation we, the Boothbay Region Water District, needs to correct. Essentially, we have outgrown the existing pipes and need to add more pipe, water carrying capacity.
The most efficient and cost-effective solution to properly serve our existing and new customers is to install a 4-inch water main along East Side Road and Cross Road, tying into the existing water main on West Side Road. This project is designated as “winter work” which will most likely continue into the spring. The water main will be placed on the west side of East Side Road and Cross Road within the town right-of-way. Our crews will need to cross several driveways which we know will inconvenience some residents for a very short time. Rest assured though, if the water district needs to cross your driveway, it will be left at least in the same condition we found it, and often, in better condition than we found it.
If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Jon Ziegra at 380-6723 or Dale Harmon at 380-5900 for resolution. If there are any residents that may wish to obtain summer water because of this project, please do not hesitate to call Troy Gauthier at 633-4723 ext. 110 during normal business hours and he will promptly help arrange summer water service.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
