Seahawks rout Rebels

The Boothbay Region High School baseball team took a narrow 7-6 win at Telstar Monday, May 22. Steady scoring throughout the game secured the win, leaving the Seahawks with a 4-8 record.

After no teams scored in the first inning, the Seahawks took a small early lead with a run in the second. They scored again in the third, but the Rebels caught up with two runs of their own.

BRHS scored again in the fourth inning and held on to the lead from there, with three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth. Telstar scored two in the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh.

The winning run was scored by Luke Morley after a single by Sam Markowitz, BRHS coach Ed Crocker said. Markowitz and Aidric Canada led the Seahawks’ offense. Markowitz had three hits and RBIs and one run, and Canada had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Gryffin Kristan, Maddox Cusumano, Henry Putnam and Morley also scored runs.

Cusumano and Canada pitched for the Seahawks with four strikeouts each. Combined, they allowed six hits and had three earned runs.

The Seahawks are currently ranked 11th of 18 in Class C’s southern division.

May 19, BRHS took a painful 22-0 loss to Oak Hill at Boothbay Harbor. The game ended on a mercy rule in the fifth inning.

Liam Jacobs, Markowitz, Kristan and Cusumano each had a run. Jacobs, Putnam and Morley were on the mound for the Seahawks. Combined, they had eight strikeouts and allowed six hits.
