The Boothbay Region High School baseball team took a 3-2 win over Hall-Dale May 26. The game, the last home game of the season for the Seahawks, left them with a 5-9 record. They are currently ranked eleventh, and Hall-Dale ninth, in Class C’s southern division.

Seahawk coach Ed Crocker said his team won due to strong pitching, solid defense and minimal mistakes. "It shows that when you don't make errors, when you don't mess up, we can beat just about anyone,” he said. "We did a lot of the little things right today."

Dylan Plummer scored the first run with an RBI from Henry Putnam to give the Seahawks a lead in the third inning. After a lull, the Bulldogs bit back in the sixth with a run of their own. Going into the seventh, the scoreboard was tied until Hall-Dale scored, taking a 2-1 lead.

The Seahawks collected themselves under pressure in their final round. Luke Morley started by scoring a run to tie the game thanks to an RBI from Aidric Canada.

In the final play, the Seahawks had two outs and loaded bases. Canada scored the winning run off a hit by Finn Harkins. Harkins said that while he was at bat he was thinking about the seniors and what a win would mean for them.

"I really wanted to get this one for my friend, Gryffin (Kristan) and, of course, all the seniors,” he said. “Every kid wants that situation. Everyone dreams in their backyard, ‘bases loaded, two outs with a chance to win the game.' I got mine and I came through.”

Kristan pitched most of the game for the Seahawks. He had nine strikeouts, allowed three hits and had one earned run. Harkins took the mound during the seventh inning for two pitches.

Crocker said the Seahawks were aggressive all the way around and the win felt especially good because everyone contributed. Overall, Harkins led batting with two hits. Canada, Kristan, Putnam, Plummer, Sam Markowitz and Liam Jacobs each had one. "I thought our hustle was good today. I thought our attitude was good today, and I thought we faced two good pitchers today and they didn't shy away," Crocker said.

According to the Seahawks, the win was especially meaningful because it was Senior Night. Kristan, Plummer, Caden Royal and Conner Dover will graduate this year, and Crocker said he is going to miss them and their contributions.

He said Kristan is his only four-year senior and an all-around contributor. Crocker said Kristan is a pitcher, shortstop, a solid hitter and a leader. “He had an excellent season, I couldn't ask any more from him this year. His leadership was awesome ... he was a great captain.”

Crocker also said Plummer had a fabulous year, especially since he had not played baseball since Little League. “For not playing for so long he did an awesome job.”

Crocker said Royal and Dover were “probably the biggest team players we had in a long time. When they didn't get in, they never complained. When I asked them to do something, they did it. Both of them have come a long way.”

May 23, BRHS lost 12-4 at Mount Abram.

Maddox Cusumano burst out of the gate with a two-run home run in the first inning. However, the Roadrunners caught up with two of their own before the inning was over. The game was tied 3-3 until the bottom of the fifth, with a second-inning score from the home team and one run from BRHS in the fourth. Mount Abram scored two runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth.

“We had a lot of costly mistakes in the fifth and sixth, where there were several unearned runs,” Crocker said.

On offense, Cusumano also scored a run, Kristan scored two runs and had two hits, Plummer scored a run and had a hit and Canada had a walk and a triple.

Jacobs and Putnam pitched for the Seahawks. Combined, they had two strikeouts and three earned runs and allowed nine hits.
