The Boothbay boys’ basketball team was three points short in its first loss this season. Boothbay (9-1) lost a hard fought 62-59 decision Jan. 14 to Class B Mountain Valley at Porter Memorial Gymnasium. Mountain Valley led throughout the second half using good ball movement and sharp perimeter shooting to lead by as many eight points in the second half. On defense, Boothbay rebounded well and played a solid 2-1-2 defense. But too many turnovers on offense led to the Seahawks’ defeat.

“We played pretty well,” said Boothbay Coach I.J. Pinkham. “That’s a good team we played. Mountain Valley is athletic and good shooters. Our zone worked and we stayed out of foul trouble, but when we turned the ball over, it led to too many scores in transitions and that was the difference,” he said.

Boothbay was led in scoring by Hunter Crocker and Sullivan Rice who scored 14 each. Other Seahawk scorers were Steve Reny and Ben Pierce with eight, Nicholas Morley with six and Kaleb Ames with five.

Mountain Valley (9-1) is in third place in Class B South. Boothbay is in fourth place in the Class C South standings. Boothbay plays Oak Hill at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 in Wales.
