Boothbay Region High School indoor track teams had another personal and team record breaking meet Jan. 11. The Seahawks traveled to the University of Southern Maine to face North Yarmouth Academy, York, Lake Region, Cape Elizabeth, Greely, Gray-New Gloucester and Lisbon high schools.

“I hope everyone is enjoying the awesomeness that is indoor as much as I am,” said Coach Nick Scott.

Will Perkins placed first and set a new school record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:09. Placing third in the same event for the girls, Kate Wickline also set a new school record with her time of 2:47 – a mere half-second from qualifying for states.

Ryan Russell ran the 400 meter dash for the first time and finished 11th in 1:04. This makes Russell the second fastest Seahawk ever in the 400 meter category.

Fox Elder, Nathan Chatterton and Mason Erhard all raced the one-mile event placing 10th, 13th and 15th, respectively, with times of 5:28, 5:34 and 5:44. This marked a first time event for both Elder and Erhard. Elder and Chatterton joined the top ten Seahawks list at fourth and fifth with Elder missing the sophomore record by less than a second.

Running the 4x200-meter relay were Mason Erhard, Fox Elder, Ryan Russell and Will Perkins. They placed sixth in 1:53.55.

“Mason graciously volunteered to run the first leg of the 4x200, which was a rather courageous move as the team had never run or practiced that event before,” said Scott. “… This was the first time that the BRHS boys fielded a relay team and as a result they now hold the school record.”

Zach Rollins placed fourth in the junior division shot put event setting a new personal record of 28’ 5”. Now ranking sixth on the Seahawks top ten list, Rollins is also the freshman record holder for the shot put event.

The Seahawks’ next meet will be at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on Friday, Jan. 18.
