The Seahawks boys and girls cross country teams hosted this year’s MVC Preview on Sept. 17. Twelve teams competed. Eight placed for the boys and four for the girls. Coach Nick Scott said hosting the meet was an honor for the  Seahawks.

Boothbay Region, Lisbon, Dirigo, Madison, Hall-Dale, Winthrop, Richmond, Carrabec, Spruce Mountain, Telstar and Oak Hill high schools and Monmouth Academy competed.

“It marks the halfway point of the racing season and gives us a really good idea of where we are at in reference to the rest of the MVC,” said Scott.

Both the Seahawks boys and girls teams placed second – a feat for the girls with just six runners and for the boys who were down a few runners to illness.

“A couple who ran were running while still feeling under the weather. All told, it was a really good showing by those who were competing and the fact that we were able to perform so well, while missing so many key runners, is a testament to the depth of our roster.”

Will Perkins was the first Seahawk to cross the finish line with a time of 19:17 for third place. Graham Harris took fifth place in 19:49; Fox Elder, 16th, 20:37; Rowan Kristin, 17th, 20:39; Nathan Chatterton, 30th, 22:04; Matt Chapman, 36th, 22:26; Quinn Ranta, 38th, 22:33; Lucas Hardwick, 39th, 22:33; Caleb Gabrielle, 55th, 24:35; Jaime DeBentito, 63rd, 26:03; Gavin Carlson, 64th, 26:43; Muhammad Shahzar, 67th, 27:31; and Phongpak Aelang, 75th, 41:01.

Faith and Glory Blethen once again took first and second place, Faith in 21:35 and Glory in 22:10. Lily Yeaton placed 18th in 28:02; Maria West, 23rd, 28:39; Delly Clarkson, 24th, 28:41; and Grace Campbell, 28th, 29:34.

“Hosting 12 schools at our facility is quite the undertaking and wouldn't be possible without a lot of people lending a hand,” Scott said.

The Seahawks will travel to Troy Howard Middle School on Saturday, Sept. 29 to compete in the 17th annual Festival of Champions.
