Seahawk girls soccer played a hard fought final match against Winthrop High School Oct. 12 only to come up short in the end, 3-1.

“It's the first game in a while that we really put pressure on the opposing defense which was nice to see,” said Coach Matt Brewer.

In a bittersweet final match of the season, the Seahawks celebrated the final soccer match of four seniors – Reagan Cola, Hannah Cola, Olivia Paolillo and Amber Hyson.

“Our seniors played really well. Reagan had an incredible game again – she's going to be in consideration for all conference player of the year. Hannah will certainly be in consideration for conference all star, too, and she played tremendously … as did Olivia,” said Brewer.

The girls began the match with five wins and eight losses, so they already knew they would not make the playoffs. Brewer said he was proud of the way they played and continued fighting until the end.

“It was a good season, a really good season. We had a good run going for a while and we'll miss the seniors.”

Brewer said others – like freshmen Falyn Harriman and Journey Bennett – will have to step up and take more responsibility next season. “We've got a lot of good people coming up through. I'm excited for the future.”
