Seahawk boys basketball coaches hold awards night

The post-season awards ceremony for the Boothbay Region High School boys basketball program on Feb. 25 featured highlights of the season past, thankful wishes to the departing seniors, and expectations for the talented group of players for next season.
After players, parents and others loaded their plates with food provided by parents, junior varsity coach Ed Crocker began the ceremony by thanking his players for their efforts and respect during the season and “this reflects on the efforts and support provided by you, the parents.”
Crocker also thanked his fellow coaches, the school staff, and others before introducing and saying kind words for each individual player, who came down from the bleachers to stand beside him on the gym floor. Each were handed a certificate of participation by varsity coach Dan Hallinan.
Hallinan, who just completed his fourth year as head coach, thanked several people and groups for their help and support during the 2024-25 season. He made special mention of the five seniors, Tyson French, Aidric Canada, Maddox Cusumano, Braden Davis and Spencer Wenners, who he got to know through coaching them during their pre-high school days.
“They have put in the time to better themselves as players and as responsible young men,” said Hallinan. Like Crocker, Hallinan thanked their parents for their support during their time as Seahawks. “They have all needed that in their lives,” said Hallinan.
After thanking, praising and poking some fun at his assistant coaches – Crocker, Julian Aponte and Kevin Ames – Hallinan recapped the season, “a season where we were in nearly every game, despite our record (5-13).”
“We went into the season knowing we lost a lot of scoring from Finn (Harkins) and Luke (Morley) and tried to find our identity and how we could make up that scoring,” said Hallinan.
Before introducing and speaking about the qualities of each player, Hallinan said the future looks bright with the talented group of freshmen and sophomores and the return of juniors Harry Hinckley, Lysander Lefevre and Simeon Bates.
“With the talent the younger group has shown, and if they put in the effort to improve, we should be able to play 10 players each game and not lose a step,” said Hallinan.
The freshmen who saw varsity playing time, as well as swinging down for some junior varsity games, included Peyton Barter, Les White, Chase Carver, Chase Licursi and Ethan Clark.
Before handing out the annual plaques to individuals, Hallinan announced that French and Canada received honorable mention as Mountain Valley Conference all-stars from the MVC coaches. He also mentioned that Cusumano had been selected to play in the annual Shriners’ Lobster Bowl football game for seniors this coming summer.
Plaques were presented to Lefevre, coaches award; Canada, most improved; and French, most valuable player.
