After a 10-year hiatus with only 10 years of records, indoor track promised to be overflowing with broken records this first season back. When the Seahawks traveled to the University of Southern Maine in Gorham Jan. 18 to face teams from Fryeburg Academy and York, Yarmouth, Freeport and Gray-New Gloucester high schools, every athlete and team in every event broke a school record.

“Will Perkins had another stellar night setting two new school records and … Kate Wickline continues to impress,” said Coach Nick Scott. “Duel athlete Graham Harris, who is also on the swim team, participated in his first track meet of the season and had quite the debut.”

Nathan Chatterton placed fifth in the one-mile run in 5:28.70, earning fifth best time in Seahawks history in that event. Kate Wickline placed second in the one-mile run in 6:27.69, just missing the record for third best time in Seahawk history – a record she set during her last meet.

Fox Elder ran the 800-meter event alone and placed eighth in 2:19.68 earning him second best time in Seahawks history.

Running in the senior boys 400-meter dash for the first time this season, Will Perkins placed first in 55.74 earning him an automatic qualification for states and a new school record. Perkins also won the two-mile run in 10:38 cutting nine seconds off his personal record, setting a new school record, and qualifying for states automatically.

In the junior varsity boys 400-meter dash, Ryan Russell and Mason Erhard placed 11th and 15th respectively in 1:05.55 and 1:07.89, times which earned both athletes school records for fourth and fifth best times.

Harris placed seventh in the 200-meter dash in 26.98 seconds. His time set a new school record as did Russell and Erhard in the same event who placed 17th and 19th respectively with times of 29.19 and 29.72.

The three were joined by Elder for the 4x200 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams. The 4x200 meter team placed fourth in 1:56, the second best time in Seahawks history. The 4x800 team was the only team to run the category and is the first time the Seahawks posted a team in that category; thus, they placed first in 10:39, setting the bar for future relay teams.
