The Boothbay Sea and Science Center (BSSC), a non-profit organization whose mission is to advance sailing, boating and ocean sciences by minimizing economic and physical obstacles, develop independence, self-confidence, teamwork and volunteerism in its participants, and inspire individuals to strengthen themselves and their community through the enjoyment of the sea, has been selected again as a beneficiary of the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program.

The Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program launched in October 2015 is designed to support local non-profits through the sale of the reusable Community Bag.

The Boothbay Sea and Science Center was selected by Hannaford store leadership as the September beneficiary of the program at the 180 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor Hannaford store. For every reusable Community Bag purchased at the Boothbay Harbor Hannaford store during the month of September, BSSC will receive a $1 donation.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to again be selected for this program. BSSC concerns itself with marine debris produced by plastics. Participating in a program that promotes reusable shopping bags is a perfect fit for the Center,” said BSSC President Pauline Dion. “Proceeds from the bags will go to support our Financial Assistance Program. More than $17,000.00 in financial assistance was awarded to local youth this summer 2018.”

In 2017, the Boothbay Sea and Science Center raised $390.00 through the Hannaford Helps Reusable Bag Program. As alumni in the program, BSSC has a new fundraising goal of $425.00 which is equivalent to 425 bags purchased.

Founded in 2012, BSSC provides affordable access to the waterfront and experiential learning activities for youth ages 5 - 17 through a uniquely integrated sea and marine science education program for Maine and summering youth.
