Science is now only a political football
Dear Editor:
I may not always agree with Joe's Journal, but the gathering storm of support for our Great Red Lobsters was worth reading!
Science now is often merely a political tool and less and less a respected discipline.
Science can mislead us on a host of our dire fears and also lift our aspirations to do good. Often we were taught, “you can't dispute the facts science has presented” just as now you have to follow the tainted money to then decide “What in science do we believe” and for what purpose are the “facts” laid out as presented.
Be it Covid and mask mandates and restrictions imposed, to using climate change as the new doomsday fear “proven by science,” there comes next the political agenda to rally us into separate camps, since science, in the political wokeness of today, is proven to “only see science as it matches how it moves my groups beliefs forward.”
Does anyone remember the cover of Newsweek magazine in the 1980s? It was proven beyond a doubt we were on the verge of entering into a new Ice Age!
No one can dispute we harm our planet and environment but we have made great strides and much to be done if only China and India and other nations would follow, but science will tell you, the earth cools, the earth heats up, and it takes decades and centuries of data left to be done to prove any “climate change.”
If the fear of a climate change doomsday is so close, why haven't we forced many who are affluent to abandon coastal properties?
For now, I'll support Joe and all who rally to fight to save the much valued way of life of our lobstermen and women and tell those that pervert science to “clam up” and move on and get their heads snapped back on straight — and we all will join in and save our whale and lobster tails together!
