Sand for seniors project begins
Boothbay Area Sand for Seniors(BASS PROJECT) is a community service project to deliver a 5-gallon bucket of sand to seniors and people with mobility issues. Maine has a large percentage of elderly individuals and many live alone. The towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor allow each residence to go to the public works facilities to fill two buckets with sand each year. Some seniors and area residents are unable to lift or transport the sand to their homes. The BASS PROJECT isdesigned tofacilitate thedeliveryof sand to these residents.
The project’s goal is to increase winter safety for area residents to prevent slipping and falling in snowy or icy conditions. Spreading sand can be a proactive measure to help reduce falls and injuries. The sand can be used by the residents to spread on stairs, walkways and driveways to prevent debilitating or life threating falls and make it safer for these individuals to remain in their homes.
If you know someone or have a family member who would benefit from the project, please contact the BASS PROJECT at bassproject2024@gmail.com or calling and leaving a message at 207-315-6183.
