Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith to lead All Saints services Aug. 23, 30
All Saints by-the-Sea is delighted to welcome the Rt. Rev. Mark Beckwith to Southport Island for his 14th year where he will preside over the next two Sunday services at All Saints. This summer, the services are virtual and may be accessed on the All Saints website, www.allsaintssouthport.org
The worship time will consist of organ music recorded at the beautiful chapel setting, prayers, hymns, and a sermon by Rev. Beckwith. The organist for the Aug. 23 service is Mr. David Brensinger. Mr. Brensinger was the organist/choirmaster at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia for 30 years and has an extensive organ recital resume. The Aug. 30 service will be enriched by the musical talents of Mr. Timothy Harrell from Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, Pennsylvania. Worshippers of all faiths are invited to join the online service.
Rev. Beckwith served as Bishop of Newark, New Jersey from 2007 to 2018. Prior to that, he served congregations in Massachusetts and New Jersey. He and his wife Marilyn have retired to Jaffrey, New Hampshire. He assists in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts as a part-time Canon for Spirituality and Leadership. He is Bishop liaison for Bishops United Against Gun Violence, a network of bishops that he co-founded in 2012. He also serves as a co-chair for Partnership for Braver Angels, a national organization and movement that seeks to de-polarize America. Rev. Beckwith graduated from Amherst College and Berkeley Divinity School. He has two children and two grandchildren.
In addition to the virtual service, All Saints chapel will be open for private prayer and meditation on Sundays from 10 a.m. until noon, Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. until noon, Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for the month of August. Golf cart transportation will be available for the Sunday hours. Social distancing, special sanitation and the wearing of masks will be in effect during these times. The chapel is located on Southport Island about two miles south on Route 238 on All Saints Road to the left.
