Rotary holds annual Soup Bowl Dinner

More than 200 hungry soup eaters braved a driving rain on Thursday, April 6 to meet at the American Legion Hall in Boothbay to sip from bowls made at the Watershed Center in Newcastle. For the 21st year, the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club put on its Soup Bowl Supper to benefit Rotary-assisted programs including the Watershed Center and Rebuilding Together of Lincoln County.
Rotary President and chairman of Rebuilding Together Tony Curulla said the money raised will help support this year’s projects scheduled for Saturday, April 29.
“We will meet together at 7:30 (a.m.) behind the Catholic Church,” said project coordinator Sally Barter. Dozens of volunteers annually participate in the day-long event. She said 16 cleanup and construction projects have been scheduled.
In addition to a variety of soups, salads and desserts, the evening included a drawing of raffle tickets for several donated gift certificates and craft items.
The diners were able to take their bowls home as a bonus for their support of Rotary activities.
The Watershed Center will hold its annual Salad Days event on Saturday, July 8.
