Roger R. Nolin

Roger R. Nolin, 84, of East Boothbay died Dec. 25 while a resident of Hawthorne House in Freeport.

He was born on Sept. 25, 1933, in Lewiston, Maine, the son of Liane and Rosaire Nolin.

He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in the same year.

After basic training, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. He was with the First Marine Division for 14 months during the Korean Conflict. When he returned to Camp Pendleton he was part of a special unit that was developing training in Helicopter Vertical Assault procedures. He also took part in the Atomic Energy Commission Proving Grounds field testing at Camp Desert Fox, Nevada. He completed his enlistment in 1955.

Upon his return to Maine he was employed by WMTW-TV Channel 8 for a number of years as a camera man. He met and married Wanda Delekto of Auburn; they lived in the L/A area for a number of years, raising two sons. Roger later worked in sales for Lewiston Lumber Company.

The family moved to the Boothbay Harbor region when he was hired as the business manager for Poole Brothers Lumber & Building Materials where he stayed until his retirement. After retirement he kept busy working as a self employed residential construction consultant. He was very active with the local church and contributed time and support to many community organizations.

He was predeceased by his wife, Wanda, who died in November.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey, and his wife Sharon and granddaughter Sarah of Derry, New Hampshire, and his son, Eric, of Topsham, along with several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, on Friday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception in the Stetson’s Funeral Home reception center. Interment at St. Peters Cemetery, Lewiston, Maine will be at a later date.
