River Arts in Damariscotta invites artists to submit work to a juried show “Land and Sea.” The deadline for entry is Saturday, May 22 at 4 p.m.  River Arts is pleased to announce the juror will be Jane Dahmen. The show will run from May 26 to July 3, 2021.

Jane Dahmen is a contemporary landscape painter whose work is inspired by the natural environment of Midcoast Maine. Known for her large immersive works, Dahmen expresses, “The natural world is my point of departure, but playing with the wet colors leads me into emotional terrain, and the form, color, and surface texture evolve as the painting comes alive.” Dahmen exhibits her work at the Portland Art Gallery and can be viewed on her website: www.janedahmen.com.

Since 2013, Dahmen has hosted “Talking Art in Maine: Intimate Conversations,” an engaging series of one-on-one live conversations with other Maine artists at the Lincoln Theater in Damariscotta.  In these compelling conversations with other artists, as in her own artwork, Dahmen is focused on creative exploration as she declares, “Pushing boundaries and risking failure is what leads to good art and it is inspiring to hear firsthand the challenges artists face.”

The theme “Land and Sea” is open to personal interpretation by the artists and may include realistic as well as abstract works. All media including but not limited to painting, sculpture, photography, and fiber may be entered. Artists may enter two pieces with a size limit of 26 inches including frame. Or artists may enter one larger piece with a size limit of 48 inches including frame.

For members the entry fee is $15 and for non-members it is $25. All submitted works must be for sale. Works to be considered must be delivered in person during regular business hours. Entry forms are available in the gallery or on the website: riverartsme.org.
