Charles and Elaine Fossett Rittershaus of Malden, Massachusetts and Sprucewold, Boothbay Harbor, announce the engagement of their daughter, Emily Sarah Christine Rittershaus, to Richard Benjamin Haggett, son of Charles Edwin “Chip” Haggett III and Martha Barter Haggett of West Boothbay Harbor.

Dr. Rittershaus attended Phillips Exeter Academy, McGill University, and the University of Massachusetts Medical School and is a postdoctoral fellow at Sanofi Genzyme in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Mr. Haggett attended Boothbay Region High School and Southern Maine Community College and studied computer engineering. He is a senior manager at Lowe’s in Worcester, Massachusetts.

The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Chester and Alice Fossett of Boothbay Harbor and the late William and Edna Rittershaus of Malden, Massachusetts and Barters Island, Boothbay.

The groom-to-be is the grandson of the late Richard “Dick” Barter and Rita McLaughlin Barter of West Boothbay Harbor and the late Charles Edwin Haggett II and Mary Coolen Haggett of Boothbay Harbor.

Emily and Ben met in the summer of 2004 in Boothbay Harbor when they both worked at Downeast Candies on the By-Way. Residents of Worcester, Massachusetts, they raise quail and rehab their 1920s home.

A summer 2018 wedding is planned in Boothbay Harbor.
