Ricky L. Giles
Ricky Leroy Giles, 54, of Boothbay died suddenly on May 8, 2014 at a family member’s home.
Rick was born in Boothbay Harbor to Lenwood Ernest Giles and Anna Mae Beam Giles.
In his early years, Rick attended local Boothbay schools where he was a champion speller. He started his commercial fishing career as a clam digger, moved on to lobstering, gillnetting, and graduated to offshore scalloping. He had a deep love and appreciation for the solitude of the sea and the bounty of the catch. He was also known for his skill with his chainsaw and frequently made easy work of a stack of wood. He was skilled at whittling wood and gave them as gifts. The recipients of his gifts were amazed at his craftsmanship.
He had the appearance of a pirate but a heart of gold. Rick was a generous soul always helping anyone in need. It was no secret that Rick enjoyed drinking with his friends, family and anyone else who cared to share a chair; if no chair was available Ricky would stand and give his chair to them.
He lived life in the fast lane but had a great way with kids. His love for children showed through in many ways. He would make up pirate songs and teach them to all the kids in the family. Music was one of Rick’s favorite things in life. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Rick was predeceased by his father, Lenwood Ernest Giles.
He is survived by his mother, Anna Mae Giles of Bath; his son, Raymond Henry “Buck” Alexander of Bath; his daughter, Nicole Jane “Nikki” Alexander of Phippsburg; his sisters, Robyn Kingston of Florida, Debrah Giles of Nobleboro, Bonnie Giles of Boothbay, Amber Collins of Dresden and Jessie Smith of Woolwich; his brothers, Stevie Giles, Scott Giles and Ralph Giles, all of Boothbay, Ronnie Giles of Southport; and his grandchildren, Waylon Reno, Seaira Bilobeau, Austin Koehling and Adreanna Donavon.
