Rev. Dr. Duncan Newcomer at Congregational Church
On Sunday, Sept. 1, guest preacher the Rev. Dr. Duncan Newcomer will be preaching at the First Congregational Church in Boothbay Harbor. The title of his sermon is, “Learning from Mary.”
Newcomer graduated from Davidson College, Union Theological Seminary, and received his doctorate in preaching from The Chicago Theological Seminary. He headed the religion department at the Loomis-Chafee School in Connecticut, was a practicing psychotherapist and marriage and family counselor for many years in Connecticut, and has served congregations in Connecticut, Maryland and Kentucky. He has recently moved from New Harmony, Indiana to Belfast, Maine with Rebecca Jessup, who grew up on Squirrel Island.
Newcomer is an experienced labyrinth facilitator, writes poetry, is an active contributor to the Reading the Spirit Blog, and has written a spiritual memoir on his own life changing experiences with the sacred feminine, “Desperately Seeking Mary” (available at Sherman’s bookstore).
After the 10 a.m. service, he will be leading an informal conversation on the power of the sacred feminine in our lives.
