The Rev. Canon Katie Pearson at All Saints Aug. 30 and Sept. 6
The Rev. Canon Katie Pearson is excited to be returning to the All Saints by-the-Sea community for her fifth summer at the chapel. She is the newly appointed Canon for the Ordinary for the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama and will lead the service of Holy Communion at 8 and 10 a.m. both Sundays. Inspiring organ music will be provided by our accomplished organist Henry Lowe at all services. A time for fellowship and coffee on the chapel grounds will follow each of the 10 a.m. services. People of all faiths are invited to attend the services.
Katie recently concluded her ministry as Vicar of St. John’s Cathedral in Denver, Colorado and will now serve as the chief of staff for the Bishop of Alabama. She will oversee clergy search processes and work closely with clergy, congregations, diocesan staff and leadership to support the mission and ministry of the diocese.
Her Master of Divinity degree was earned from the Iliff School of Theology and her diploma of Anglican Studies is from Sewanee’s School of Theology. Prior to ordination, Katie was a high school English teacher, an engaged volunteer, and an active lay leader. She brings a wealth of experiences to her ministry as her family has lived overseas, in the Southeast, the Upper Midwest, the Mid-Atlantic, and the Rocky Mountains. She and her husband, Don, have three adult children.
An informal discussion relating to the week’s scripture passages will be led by Rev. Pearson on the outside porch of the chapel on Tuesdays Sept. 1 and 8 from 9 to 10 a.m. Attendees of All Saints as well as members of other area church are encouraged to attend.
All Saints by-the-Sea is on Southport Island on All Saints Road about two miles on the left driving south on Route 238. An Episcopal Church sign marks the side of the road. Parking is available along Route 238, or if necessary, in the limited number of handicapped parking spaces off All Saints Road. A golf cart will ferry persons from the handicapped lot to the church steps. The chapel dock is reserved on Sundays for those wishing to arrive by boat. The beautiful and simple wood chapel is open for quiet prayer and meditation during the week.
