Resigning with regret

    Dear Editor:

Hello all Southport voters and members of surrounding communities.

I was very happy and extremely grateful, to say the least, to be voted into the position of the Southport Central School school board last week. It truly means a lot, and I appreciate all of your support. I was hopeful to be the new blood in this seat to help make positive changes for our school’s future. I had a clear victory of 62-35 votes.

The day after I was announced as the new member of the board, I received word that it would be a conflict of interest, and I would not be able to continue to substitute. I was devastated that I had to make a choice, and was shocked this was the first time I had heard of this policy. I substitute teach as often as I can in Southport and Boothbay Region Elementary, and there is such a shortage of substitutes right now. In the end, I decided to resign from the Southport School Board. It seems to be what’s best for me at this time, and be able to continue to substitute. I really do appreciate all of the congratulatory wishes from many of you, and thank you to all who took the time to vote last week.
