Registration open for FARMS at CLC Y sourdough class

Sat, 12/22/2018 - 7:00am

A specialty adult class, Sourdough Baking with Bill Babb, in the FARMS at the Central Lincoln County Y kitchen, is open for registration. Only 10 spots are available, so early registration is encouraged.

Babb is a returning guest chef and baker and will once again be offering his popular sourdough class, but this will be his first time hosting his class at the CLC Y. On Jan. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Babb will teach participants how to make a tasty, nutritious loaf of sourdough bread, as well as how to care for a sourdough starter, how to knead using two different techniques, and how to mix, shape and slice bread for baking. Babb will demonstrate two ways to bake, using a cloche and steaming the oven. Participants also will get to take home some sourdough culture (with a long history), and prepare a loaf to bake at home. Costs: Y family members $23; members $25; and non-members $45 (scholarships available).

On Jan. 29, FARMS at the Y will be hosting their second Farm-to-Table Community Lunch open to all members of the community. Participants can choose from two options: Cook & Dine for $5 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.), as they will also help prepare the meal or Dine Only for $10 (noon).

Gift a cooking class to a family member for a creative way to keep them engaged this winter! Gift certificates are available at the front desk.
