Registration open for cooking classes

FARMS at the Y at Central Lincoln County (CLC) YMCA is offering two upcoming cooking classes for teens and adults.

“Knife Skills 101” with Chef Mikael Andersson will take place on Wednesday, May 1, 5:30-7p.m. This includes lessons on how to properly use and care for knives for proper kitchen safety and technique. Chef Mikael will demonstrate as well as lead exercises in proper knife skills. Chef Mikael grew up in Sweden. After culinary school, he was a private chef to several ambassadors inEurope and South America. He worked in some of the best restaurants in NYC as a pastry chef. He was executive Chef at Colby College. Currently, he lives in Wiscasset with his family and is the Executive Chef at Lincoln Academy. Cost is $25 for family members, $30 for members, and $60 for nonmembers.

“Sourdough Baking Class” with Bill Babb will take place on May 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Babb will teach participants how to make a tasty, nutritious loaf of sourdough bread, as well as how to care for a sourdough starter, how to knead using two different techniques, and how to mix, shape and slice bread for baking. Babb will demonstrate two ways to bake, using a cloche and steaming the oven. Participants also will get to take home some sourdough culture (with a long history), and prepare a loaf to bake at home. Cost: $20/family members; $25/members; and $45/nonmembers.
