Rebuilding Together holds annual work day

Rebuilding Together of Lincoln County held its annual workday on Saturday, May 14.
According to long-time volunteer Sally Barter, the chapter began operation in 2002. This year it was scheduled to serve 15 households with 75 to 100 volunteer workers.
Barter said that although the organization is inclusive of other Lincoln County towns, the majority of the work projects are on the Boothbay peninsula.
The Lincoln County chapter is one of 225 affiliates serving 1880 communities nationwide, with over 275,000 volunteers.
Locally volunteers either come individually or from local organizations and businesses, said Barter.
“The Rotary will bring a bunch of guys,” she said.
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences and Bath Savings Institution also sent crews.
The volunteers met in the early morning behind the Catholic Church. They signed in and were given T-shirts and assigned to one of the projects.
“We do a lot of yard work,” Barter said.
Current president Tony Curulla greeted the volunteers with a portion of the organization’s mission statement, “to keep low-income homeowners safe and warm,” and added that the crews should have fun.
“It’s a great bunch of people to work with. We all have a good time,” said Barter.
The organization is non-profit and relies on donations to cover expenses.
“We get a lot of donations from summer people,” she said.
