Re: Joe’s Journal politics
Dear Editor:
I enjoy reading the Boothbay Register, including Joe’s Journal.
However, when Joe wanders into political commentary (Re: June 30, Halftime in America) that often points out the glaring issue may have with journalism today: More to the story that is never told or reported.
Joe did make several valid points in how recent current events may well affect the November mid-term elections (Jan. 6 hearing, Roe v Wade) and I do share his optimism that the Red Sox can still make the Fall Classic.
The most glaring comment by Joe I disagree with is about the Jan. 6 hearings.
“So far, talking heads, including Fox News commentators acknowledge the House Committee has presented powerful stuff.”
Joe, on this you fumbled big time!
Fox often reports what the networks and cable fail to report.
The U.S. Capitol hearings were a shame and a display worth of a Third World court of law! Speaker Pelosi disallowed Republicans on this committee and disallowed the Republicans the right to subpoena witnesses.
Many of the protestors still remain in jail and yet charged with a crime.
Was the “invasion” (as Joe puts it) an irresponsible and horrid protest? Yes (on that, we agree) but not an invasion or as others say, an insurrection.
I’ll keep reading Joe, but you risk stepping into the political mudflats you may not get out of as a clean and fair journalist.
