Put Stephanie back in the House

    Dear Editor:

When I met Stephanie Hawke in 1989 she was co-owner, manager and cook at the popular Carriage House in East Boothbay. She was hard working, honest, fun-loving and had plenty of joie de vivre. Over the years much has changed --- a family, business --- but Stephanie has stayed the same.

With her lobsterman husband Andy Hawke, she has raised Nicholas, Leila and Andrew from nice kids to responsible, hard working and successful adults. She owns and manages Hawke Motors and Party Rentals.

My Mom frequently quotes Ben Franklin “If you want something done, ask a busy person.” That perfectly describes Stephanie. In addition to running a household and business, she finds time for endless volunteer work --- Rebuilding Together, American Legion, Boothbay Region Health Center, School Board and Windjammer Committee.

Many times a candidate or politician shows up for the picture taking and then leaves once the camera it put away. Not Stephanie. She’s there from the beginning rolling up her sleeves to work and stays until it’s all done.

As our representative in the past Stephanie has proved her commitment to her constituents and showed that she represented everyone. Even after her term expired she continued to take calls and help when she could. No matter how busy, Stephanie always has time for others.

I don’t think of Stephanie as a politician. I think of her as one of us. The type of person I want representing me in Augusta. Time to put Stephanie back in the House!
