“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” – Audrey Hepburn

The planting must go on! Despite coronavirus restrictions on movement for residents and visitors to St. Andrews Village, members of the Boothbay Region Garden Club garden therapy team will not be stopped in their quest to spread joy and create beauty for all who live and work at the Village.

Facing down the challenges of social distancing, seven garden club members, masked and working six feet apart, met in the garden outside the Gregory Wing on Monday, June 1 for the annual planting of their vertical gardens. In all, 21 easily moved and managed planters were filled with veggies and flowers. The gardens are easy to view from the large windows of the dining area and will provide the vivid color of annuals growing alongside lush green edibles that will be harvested and used to enhance meals at the Village throughout the summer.

Though residents were unable to participate in this activity they will still reap the benefits of the garden as all look forward to a time when it will again be safe to share hugs, common spaces and the camaraderie of working on garden projects side by side.

Garden therapy, a community outreach program sponsored by the Boothbay Region Garden Club, will continue to provide a window on beauty throughout this difficult time for the residents of St. Andrews Village.
