Preservation for the east side

Wed, 04/24/2019 - 11:00am

    Dear Editor:
Whether or not you like the developer personally, he has never wavered from his belief that the town needs commerce on the east side through restoring the legitimacy of businesses that are already there. And he has always wanted to hear from you.

The opponent’s vision hasn’t been so clear and their interest in hearing from you not so pressing. At first they argued to “preserve” working waterfront (by hamstringing existing hotels and restaurants). Then it was about “preserving” middle class hotel rooms. Then it was about “preserving” views through parks. In each case the argument was adapted to their circumstance and their approach kept the vote out of the hands of the voters because delay was “no” by default.

Chair Wendy Wolf, and Bill Hamblin, town attorney Cunningham, and Town Manager Tom Woodin have done good work to support the right of the voters to choose - in spite of every effort to the contrary. While they respect both sides and have personal feelings, they know it’s your vote that matters.

When a candidate like Mr. F-Fitch tells you 18 months of delays without voting was to your benefit you can bet they aren’t changing much on May 3. Particularly when in the same letter, he tells you what you need on the inner harbor; made possible by 18 months of delay. They want to keep telling you what you need for three more years as selectman.

I urge you to vote for the candidates who have respected your right to vote all along. Vote for Rosemary and Tom.
