Portland fire boat arrives for work
Thu, 02/20/2014 - 6:00pm
The 5-year-old, 65-foot Portland fire boat arrived in Boothbay Harbor Thursday morning, Feb. 20.
Working under a rare sunny sky, Boothbay Harbor Shipyard workers fastened the fire boat onto one of its ways and maneuvered it to where it will be refurbished during the next three weeks.
Shipyard President Eric Graves said the boat will receive a new paint job on the hull and topside, and undergo systems and running gear work. The boat is expected to be covered in the next day or two to avoid any weather.
“The boat is in good shape and the crew is great,” Graves said.
The fire boat has been in two accidents and needed repair since its delivery to the department in 2009.
